The Egyptian goddess of the sky & all heavenly bodies, Nut (pronounced "Nwt") stretches across and protects the Earth below. Every evening she is said to swallow the sun and then give birth to it every morning. Usually depicted with her hands and feet planted firmly in the ground her body extends across the sky covered in stars. It is thought that she a representation of what we call the Milky Way.
