Selkies are mentioned in Celtic mythology. They are shape shifters transforming between seals in the water and (usually very attractive) human forms on land. The most retold story is that of a selkie woman found by a sailor who falls in love with her human form and hides her pelt to trap her on land. They marry and have a family but she yearns to go back to the sea and be free. Her children find the hidden pelt one day and give it to her. She returns to the sea and is happy again. This made me think about, due to our many roles, women can often feel trapped and yearn for freedom.
